Make-A-Wish Trip Update: Part 2 — BNSF & Grapevine Railroad
We’re so excited to share more about the second part of our amazing Make-A-Wish adventure with BNSF and the Grapevine Vintage Railroad!
First up: BNSF Headquarters.
Although we weren’t able to visit the railyards, we felt so lucky to get a peek behind the scenes at HQ. Right out front, they had two beautiful passenger trains and one of them was unlocked just for us to see, and their Operations Center was incredible — Cory and I were in awe of all the work that goes into moving trains safely and on time.
One of the sweetest parts was how patient our tour guide was with James. He just let him be a kid — playing in the passenger train out front as long as he wanted. Meanwhile, James was having the best time playing with the ball BNSF so kindly gave him. A simple gift, but it brought him so much joy!
Next stop: Grapevine Vintage Railroad.
Our train ride with the Grapevine Vintage Railroad was honestly one for the books. That morning, there was a little confusion about when to check in, but it turned into the best surprise. I was chatting with the manager and mentioned that we’d just visited BNSF but hadn’t gotten to see the railyards. Turns out, the train engineer for our Grapevine ride actually works for BNSF too! How wild is that?
Before we boarded, the manager came back to us with the sweetest surprise — he asked if James would like to join the engineer up front and help drive the train back to the station! WHAAAAAT?! We were completely blown away. Watching James up there with the engineer, having the time of his life, was pure magic.
This whole experience was more than just trains — it was about the kindness and heart of everyone who made these moments happen. We’re endlessly grateful to BNSF, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad team, and Make-A-Wish for giving James memories we’ll cherish forever.
We also want to say thank you for your patience — we know it’s been a while since our last update. Between life’s ups and downs and all the trips back and forth from Charlotte to UNC, things have been busy. Please keep our family in your prayers as we navigate everything life throws our way. We’re so grateful for each of you walking this journey with us.
Much love!
P.S. — Peterbilt, if you’re reading this… just know we shout “THERE’S A PETERBILT!!!” every single time we spot your logo on the road.
